🌱 The Art of Slowing Down to Speed Up

As January unfurls, let's wander through a tale of time, pace, and discovery...
This year began with a personal revelation about pace and depth. For someone accustomed to a fast-paced environment, the concept of 'slowing down to go fast' always seemed counterintuitive. However, a recent interaction with one of our most recent clients of 2023 taught me a valuable lesson in humility and the power of taking it slow.
We initially thought we were dealing with a time management issue. But as we dug deeper, it became clear that the real challenge was about approach and integration. This was our 'Aha!' moment! See, understanding that while some clients seek execution and value speed in delivery more than being involved with the process, others desire mentorship and deeper involvement in the creation process. It's about building with them, not just for them.
This approach, akin to the practice of Hatha Yoga, challenges us in unexpected ways. If you're skeptical about the difficulty of moving slowly, try holding a Hatha yoga pose compared to the flowing movements of Vinyasa. Though Vinyasa is challenging and dynamic, it pales in comparison to the mental and physical discipline required to hold a Hatha pose in time—a true testament to the power and challenge of deliberate slowness.
This might momentarily pause the swift strides we're used to, but it enriches the journey, ensuring that when we do move, it's with clarity and unity. It’s in this 'slowing down' that we find the rhythm for a more profound and swift flow, crafting a dance that truly embodies collaboration and understanding.
📈 Diving Into Budgets and Strategic Planning
January also saw us diving headfirst into budgeting and planning for the year, and here is your reminder that you should too.
Just this week, we had the pleasure of participating in one of the events we organize for our dear client AWL community in the Dominican Republic, focusing on “Effective strategies and insights for accounting for independent consultants.”It was enlightening to see seasoned professionals gain new perspectives on a topic many of us find daunting.
It was endearing to see we are not the only ones still wanting to elevate the type of advice and help one ought to get there, and take it very seriously to have our affaires in order. This experience reinforced my belief that this year, more than ever, measuring what matters will be crucial to achieving our goals and those of our clients.
Speaking of, we are currently engrossed in the book "Measure What Matters" about how Google, Bono, and the Gates Foundation have harnessed the power of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to achieve extraordinary results. This read is shaping our thinking about how we can apply these principles to our work and community-building efforts.
